How to Make a WiFi QR Code

  1. The Wi-Fi type is already selected above. Enter your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears in your WiFi settings, capitalization included.
  2. Type the network password and pick the security type (WPA/WPA2 for almost all modern routers).
  3. The QR code updates live. Pick a size and error correction level; level H tolerates smudges and stains, which matters for printed codes.
  4. Download as PNG for quick printing or SVG if you want to scale it up for signage without any blur.

Print it, frame it, or laminate it. Guests point their camera at the code and tap "Join Network". No more spelling out "capital B, lowercase q, the number 4" across the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a WiFi QR code work?

The code encodes your network name (SSID), password, and security type in a standard format (WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;). When someone scans it, their phone reads those details and offers to join the network with one tap. Both iPhone (iOS 11+) and Android (10+) support this natively in the camera app; no extra app is needed.

Does it work with WPA2, WPA3, and open networks?

Yes. Select the security type your router uses; WPA/WPA2/WPA3 all use the WPA setting in the QR standard. For an open network with no password, choose the open option and leave the password empty. Hidden networks work too if your generator includes the hidden flag.

Is my WiFi password safe in the QR code?

The password is encoded in the QR code itself, not encrypted, so treat the printed code like the password: anyone who can scan it can join. Post it where only guests can see it (inside the house, on the cafe table, in the guest room binder). Importantly, this generator runs entirely in your browser, so your password is never sent to us or any server.

What happens if I change my WiFi password?

This is a static QR code: the credentials are baked in at generation time. If you change your network name or password, generate a new code and reprint it. The upside is that a static code never expires and does not depend on any third-party service staying online.

Where do people typically use WiFi QR codes?

Guest rooms and vacation rentals (frame it next to the door), cafes and restaurants (table tents or menus), offices (reception desk for visitors), events and weddings (welcome signage), and home fridges for houseguests. Print at 25-30mm or larger so older phones focus easily.
